SilentHEMP is a regenerative acoustic panel made from a balanced blend of hemp, flax, and a stabilizing PET bicomponent fiber. Developed as a high-performance interior product, it combines natural sound absorption (αw 0.75) with exceptional ecological performance. Its defining feature: SilentHEMP is CO₂-positive. According to its verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD EN 15804+A2), the panel stores more carbon during raw-material growth than is emitted throughout production, achieving –2.23 kg CO₂e per m² in modules A1–A3.
Sourced from regional farms and manufactured with 100% renewable energy, SilentHEMP minimizes resource use and transportation impact. The panel provides an elegant, tactile alternative to synthetic acoustic materials and enables architects and interior designers to improve indoor comfort while reducing the carbon footprint of buildings.
In the refurbishment of the large auditorium at Graz University of Technology, SilentHEMP’s natural colors and modular geometry were used to create a warm, contemporary acoustic landscape that enhances speech clarity and user comfort. The installation demonstrates how natural fibers can advance contemporary design, offering a scalable, climate-positive solution for workspaces, educational environments, hospitality settings, and residential interiors.
Synthesa
The project was developed in collaboration with Synthesa, one of Austria’s leading manufacturers of paints, coatings, and façade systems. Synthesa supported the design process with its in-house color planning expertise, offering tailored guidance on material combinations, color harmonies, and surface aesthetics.
Although primarily a paint and material manufacturer, Synthesa provides professional color-design services for architects, builders, and interior designers. For this project, Synthesa created the color concept and design framework that guided the visual integration of SilentHEMP acoustic panels into contemporary interior environments.
