Connection to the land is important for the Australian people, it signifies a purpose of place and a belonging that shows us where we have come from and where we are heading. It is in this illuminated sculpture we draw the analogy for the client in their own growth and achievement.
The isobars used are the very same topographical contours that shape the land this building occupies. Each piece representing its own reflected height, is made from individual preformed pieces that fit together meticulously.
The structure is made almost entirely from a recyclable aluminium structure and clad in a satin skin of anodised stainless steel offering a luxurious, opulent form. The fixture covers a 20m x 10m footprint but due to its construction is extremely light for its size and no additional structural costs were incurred. The upward and downward light emission creates an ambient glow and subtle wayfinding suggestion to the lift lobby for people entering the building.
Because of the prefabricated nature of the fixture all construction was produced off site and installation was confined to create minimal impact on the busy lobby area.
The space has proved very popular and has become a light filled respite and meeting place for the occupants.
FLOOK
We were approached by our client to create, manufacture and install something special in the field of custom lighting that was sensitive to the cultural heritage of this very important site in the center of Melbourne. The space had some challenges however.
The installation was not to disrupt the busy foyer. It had to fit all relevant lighting legislation requirements including ANZ1860 and J6 efficiency expectations as well as offer a focal and wayfinding point for the patrons.
