BWL Taichung is conceived as a dual-purpose destination that brings together a customer centre and a workplace within two expansive floors of a city-centre commercial building, totalling approximately 11,300 square feet. One level is dedicated to customers, combining product discovery, wellness consultations, communal events, and family-friendly spaces in a vibrant, hospitality-led environment. The other houses BWL’s employees in a contemporary workplace with collaborative areas, breakout zones, and a central pantry that encourages interaction and focus. Together, the two floors create a coherent brand environment that supports both external engagement and internal culture.
The design narrative is rooted in a local dialogue with nature and humanistic values. Inspired by the vertical rhythms and rounded forms of traditional Taiwanese temple columns, the interior translates these cultural references into fluted joinery, sculptural display walls, and vertical elements that visually lift the modest ceiling heights. The customer experience unfolds as a meandering journey, guided by a wavy brass floor inlay and matching ceiling light strip that recall the paths of a Chinese garden. Rather than presenting a series of isolated rooms, the plan invites discovery, movement, and continuity between functions.
Spatially, the customer floor is arranged to support flexibility and atmosphere. A sculptural display table inspired by mountainous landscapes anchors the showroom, while a pivoting gridded partition reveals a generous event hall that can be divided into two smaller rooms as needed. Along the perimeter windows, a customer lounge offers panoramic city views, complemented by an Instagrammable corner with oversized product sculptures, a children’s area, and a wellness consultation suite. The journey begins at the lift lobby, where a circular indoor garden and artificial skylight create an immediate sense of freshness and calm. The workplace floor adopts a more neutral palette and open-plan composition, with breakout areas distributed throughout to support collaboration and concentration.
The material palette balances softness with strength, using sandy beige finishes, light timber floors, gentle greens, blush pinks, and metallic trims to create a calm yet refined atmosphere. Fluted joinery, mesh displays, and pivoting partitions articulate the interplay between solidity and transparency, intimacy and openness. Sustainability was central from the outset, with locally sourced materials, low-VOC finishes, FSC-certified timbers, recyclable components, and efficient joinery methods used to reduce waste and environmental impact. Energy-efficient ventilation, daylight-led planning, artificial skylights in deeper areas, and precise retail lighting further support comfort and reduce consumption. Acoustic treatments, operable partitions, and biophilic gestures, including a circular indoor garden and planted interventions, reinforce the project’s wellbeing agenda.
