The collection’s title refers to ‘You only live once … this time’, which is a statement to encourage you to live your life to its fullest in the current moment and dare to become who you are meant to be. The designer has always been mesmerized by the concept of an unapologetic female character who overcomes her shyness and dares to make a bold statement with her presence, drawing attention from every corner of the room. While this persuasive idol has always been the center figure of her collections, YOLO’s muse is taking it a step further. She is the embodiment of strength and sensuality perfectly bonding together. The designer was always fond of drawing in comic book style. In her teenager years she met the works of Dani, the French Bandes Desinees illustrator, and besides other anime style cartoons, this was her main trigger to spend her days with drawing. The French illustrator captured the sensuality of women in a way that made her want to be able to depict the beauty of the female body and it became her passion. The protagonist of this small story is sensual, well aware of her power as a woman and is not afraid to use it. The small snippets of the story all express her confidence, while wearing her high heel boots, riding a motorbike, or just simply showing off her physical features in a well-fitted jumpsuit. As the title refers to the importance of the current time, the captions include the word ‘Today’ repeatedly. “Today everything is going to be just awesome’, ‘Today, I’m finally in a good mood’. This character came alive on the pieces in the form of the printed fabric of tightly fitted jumpsuits and dresses in four vibrant colors: yellow, green, blue and fuchsia.
Molded liquid silicone rubber, which is usually the protagonist of the designer’s work is making a cameo appearance in this collection, showing up here and there. The 3D silicone cylinders standing out of the surface of the silicone bralettes, vests, cover-ups are results of a circular pouring technology. The designer has been experimenting with silicone since 2014, applying different approachеs based on the current collection’s main features. Originally she used this material to create unique swimwear-type outfits, hand-coloring every piece and making 3D patterns, as thanks to to the molding technology it is possible to individually control the thickness of the final product. The flexibility-hold balance of the fabric, the close to waste-free efficiency of pouring, the easy cleanability were all such features that made the designer use this material as often as possible. The seamless appearance and rubbery surface also provides the pieces with a sci-fi ambience, which was always an important benefit of this unique material.
