The futuristic architecture of the Clubhouse at Peralta Beach condenses the bold, modern, approach to coastal living at Peralta Beach even further by way of a 1930’s lido-inspired pavilion that acts as a dynamic fulcrum within the low-density urban landscape.
Situated on a sloping road that leads off Peralta Beach road into the Heights III subdivision of Peralta Beach, the low-slung restaurant and social club mediates between three levels across its corner site, with two main entrances and a breakfast terrace each addressing the street at differing heights, and with varying degrees of public access ~ all of which provide ample outdoor served spaces in order to take in the sun and spectacular views of the adjacent farmland and Atlantic Ocean beyond.
Complete with a celebrity-chef restaurant that is open to the public seven days a week, a members-only lounge, and a Peralta Beach guests-only swimming pool, the Clubhouse is a multivalent space that provides the social canvas for Peralta Beach residents and the broader public.
In terms of materiality and form, as with all buildings in Peralta Beach, the design embraces timeless form, robust materials and high-performance solar shield glazing which ameliorates the damp coastal climate and the harsh summer sunsets respectively.
Since all development on the Silver Coast of Portugal is restricted to being built within approximately 600m of the beach by way of the POC setback, the architecture and interiors, which are intrinsically “beachfront” by location, emphasise their coastal expression by way of a refined palette of crisp white walls, low slung concrete roofs, warm pale flooring, and the ubiquitous “calçada” paving which is used lavishly to invite the public from the public footpaths into the invited public domain.
All of Peralta Beach’s public and quasi-public facilities such as the Clubhouse, the Paddle Courts and Paddle Court Cafe, and the forthcoming Country Club, embrace the same pared-back architectural language and attitude towards creating subtle hierarchy between the buildings themselves, and a legible gradient between public and private spaces.
