The interior design of Casa de Praia(Beach Home), a residential building in Torres on Brazil’s southern coast, was conceived as a direct continuation of its architecture. Rather than simply occupying the building, the interiors extend its logic: the horizontal slabs, stone volumes, curved lines, landscaped terraces, and vegetation cascading over the façades reappear inside, translated into material, form, and atmosphere.
This continuity is built through a tactile, essential material palette. Natural stone, which anchors the exterior volumes, crosses the building envelope and resurfaces on floors, walls, and interior planes. Wood, marble, linen, leather, pebbles, and mineral finishes create a serene composition shaped by layered textures and by the expression of materials in their most authentic state. In the lobby, sinuous wood panels echo the architecture’s curves and abstractly evoke the movement of the coastal landscape. Brazilian Paraná Kronos marble, used to frame the entrances, further reinforces the presence of local materiality.
The relationship between interior and exterior also structures the project. Just as the architecture reaches toward the landscape through terraces, balconies, and gardens, the interiors unfold as a sequence of paths, courtyards, light, and vegetation. Nature is not treated as decoration, but as part of the spatial experience, while light reveals the irregularity of stone, the depth of wood, and the softness of the forms.
It is through this encounter between material, landscape, and ways of living that Beach Home expresses its Brazilian identity. Not through literal or folkloric references, but through an approach that values generous spaces, fluid connections between indoors and outdoors, shade, vegetation, natural materials, and a sensitive relationship with climate and the body.
This intention is completed by a curation of Brazilian design, selected from macro to micro and bringing together different generations. In the lobby, a sculptural sofa by Anna Maya is paired with armchairs by Ricardo Fasanello and Guilherme Wentz’s Pós-Tropical Vase. In the apartments, pieces by Sérgio Rodrigues, Patricia Anastassiadis, and Waldir Júnior extend this narrative. More than objects, they embody a design culture grounded in materiality, craftsmanship, comfort, and invention.
Within the residences, this language becomes more intimate. Framed by large openings, the sea becomes part of everyday life, while wood, stone, textiles, and light create a warm counterpoint to the vastness of the landscape.
Casa de Praia thus proposes an experience in which architecture, interiors, furniture, landscape, and light belong to a single narrative. The coast is present without needing to be represented, and Brazil is revealed through material, design, and ways of inhabiting: a contemporary and distinctly Brazilian interpretation of life by the sea.
