About the Design:
This is a single floor residential project; the size of the space is just over 70 square meters.
In the initial planning stage, the owner’s daily routine, habits, and needs are all taken into consideration. The kitchen walls were knocked down to maximize the public space and to elevate functionality. Then, through precise adjustments of the walls and doors, the less utilized guest bathroom is reduced in size, and a third room is released into a spacious en suite and walk-in closet. The idea of putting the toilet in the guest bathroom is not only to give the master bathroom a key vision, it is the exemplification of the customization of a modern residence.

With no standard partitions in the foyer, one enters free-roaming public space with a deep field of vision. Mobile furniture, lighting schemes, panel designs and cabinets are used as invisible partitions in the living room and kitchen, creating a sense of presence and also opens up multiple angles with which to admire the space. The master bedroom has multiple entry points; clothing and accessories can be displayed in the changing room; the sleeping area with hypnotic lighting; and the bathroom decorated with a luxurious web of black and white mosaic, all strike the senses and draw you in.

Furthermore, the choice of materials balances aesthetics, sense of ritual and sustainability. Firstly, we used dark grey ombrĆ© and earth tones as the base, then we combined that with craftsmanship to showcase the texture of the wood, the matte layer, and aging effect to create a tactile and emotional sense of time. The blue-and-white porcelain, black and white mosaics, image wallpaper and classical wall panel mouldings create focal points for different areas of the apartment. The herringbone floor is made from recycled materials, while the antique lamps and dining table are second-hand collectors’ items which have found a new life.
