Choose a category that fits the work
Define what your team delivered: research, content, visual identity, interface design, development or a combination of these. Explain the website’s audience and purpose. A portfolio, an online shop and an information service need different presentations because their visitors are trying to do different things.
Confirm the available category and eligibility in the current programme brief. A mobile interface, a website and a broader digital service are not interchangeable descriptions of the same submission.

The Web Design Award Winners collection brings together published project records. Use the credited designers, programme, edition and nomination to understand each record’s context.
Study how the work is communicated, but build your own submission around the actual supported behaviour of your website. A winning project is an example, not a template or a promise of future recognition.
Show an experience, not only a home page
Choose one important visitor task and show the sequence that supports it. Explain what happens after an action: a selection, a form submission, an error or a return visit. Include a relevant mobile example when the website supports mobile use.

Explain checks and outcomes precisely
If accessibility or performance is part of your story, identify the pages, methods and conditions checked. Avoid turning one automated test into a claim about the entire website. If the work is a prototype, describe its limitations and distinguish demonstrated behaviour from planned functionality.
Business outcomes also need context. Identify the measurement period and other changes that could affect the result. When reliable outcome data is unavailable, describe the delivered work and the observations you do have.
Review requirements before submitting
Check the programme’s category list, judging criteria, fees, deadlines, media requirements and publication terms. Make sure supporting links work outside your organisation and that confidential information has been removed or approved for publication.
Does a live URL replace the presentation? Follow the current form’s requirements. A focused presentation helps explain the work even when a live URL is also supplied.
Should desktop and mobile be shown? Include the formats relevant to the project and required by the programme. Show a meaningful difference in behaviour rather than repeating the same screen at two sizes.
Does an accessibility scan guarantee eligibility or an award? No. Describe the scope and findings of any checks accurately and follow the programme’s published rules.

What winners receive
Each Design Skill Awards winner and runner-up receives an electronic certificate of achievement, a set of award logos and promotional banners, and a landing page on the website with full information about the project. Winning projects are publicised on the award’s social media, media partners publish selected winners, and a special engraved trophy can be ordered.
