This project transforms studios into a technological and sonic space, while also paying tribute to the history of the neighborhood and the building.

Located across from Parc Lahaie in the heart of Montreal’s Mile End, the building at 5002 Saint-Laurent has served as Circonflex’s headquarters since 2019. The building was long the home and studio of Quebec painter Lucio De Heusch, some of whose works are now part of the collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. This culturally rich past explains the special attention to the heritage and creative spirit of the neighbourhood in the redesign of the studios.

The central space, an open area extending two stories high, is conceived as a social ecosystem where artists and clients are invited to connect and exchange ideas in order to push creative thinking further.

The dining area opens onto a lounge space, reinforcing the connection between the kitchen and a 14-foot Italian marble bar. A focal point of the main living area and heavily inspired by the 1970s, the kitchen emphasizes comfort and elegance, offering a warm and intimate atmosphere ideal for happy hours that sometimes turn into concerts.

The Studios The studios are the nerve center of the company, designed to inspire imagination and stimulate intellect. Spread across the building’s four floors, each has its own distinct identity, with velvet-covered walls in unique colors reminiscent of refined 1970s Swedish design. The recording rooms adjacent to the control rooms are separated by angled soundproof glass, minimizing specular reflections that could interfere with the room’s acoustics.

The idea behind this blend of styles emerged during the preservation of furniture that came with the building and was acquired by the new owner. The collection included Artopex furniture and Christian Dior sofas, among others. Perfectly aligned with the color palettes, textures, and materials, these pieces helped terrazzo, white oak, Fantastico marble, and black walnut come together into a cohesive and harmonious design.

The renovation of 5002 Saint-Laurent also made the building fully smart and future-ready. An advanced home automation system controls lighting, security, sound, and temperature, allowing for seamless integration of technology.
